Me Patti, You ..........Blago???

by Janet Crain

Patti Blagojevich claims she is doing this Summer reality show to resurrect her reputation as something other than a foul mouthed Chicago girl. Well, I hope she doesn't encounter a 27 foot boa constrictor. We may find out we ain't heard nothing yet.

Ex-governor Blagojevich was not permitted to travel to Costa Rica to appear in a reality television show but, his wife, Patti is stepping up to the plate and appearing in his place. She arrived in Los Angeles for a promotional shoot earlier this week.

Rod is facing federal corruption charges for scheming to trade or sell President Obama’s U.S. Senate seat and using his position as governor to procure campaign contributions from companies dealing with state business.

He was banned by a federal judge to participate in the NBC show, “I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here” as he has no passport. Supposedly, he will be connected to the show in a “surprise” manner. NBC explains the show as being about “10 pampered celebrities dumped into the jungle to see if they survive.”

However, Blagojevich is permitted to travel around the country and flew to Los Angeles in April to do a promo for the show. He simulated a parachute jump using wind machines while wearing a harness and lifted in front of a blank green ChromaKey screen.

Robert Gibbs should apologise to the British press for his sneering rant

By Janet Crain
I sure wish this administration would stop
alienating our closest allies and friends. The day may come when we don't have any left.

For all its talk of "raising America's standing" in the world after the Bush years, the Obama administration is doing a spectacularly bad job of reaching out to its allies. Unfortunately this is the new face of America's public diplomacy, which will only serve to alienate public opinion across the Atlantic. Congratulations Gibbs - you've just made an enemy out of the entire British media, quite an achievement for the man in charge of selling the President's message.

I'm Not Painting My Roof White!!!

by Janet Crain
No way am I painting my forest green metal roof white. This is a dumb idea. Even in Texas I believe the heat absorbed in Winter offsets any gains that might come in the Summer from having a white reflective roof. And up North...there are no benefits. Except to paint companies and contractors. That will put a lot of people to work. Paint all the roofs and sidewalks white. / sarc Dumb and dumber!!! Some of these ideas sound like the Little Rascals thought them up.

Energy: As administration officials tilt at windmills and talk of painting our roofs white, a real energy solution has emerged from the Arctic deep. So why has only Alaska's Sarah Palin noticed?

Back in July, when IBD first interviewed the then-little-known governor, Palin emphasized developing Alaska's Chukchi Sea resources. Under those icy waters, it was then believed, was enough oil and gas to supply America for a decade.

"It's a very nonsensical position we're in right now," Palin told us. "(We) ask the Saudis to ramp up production of crude oil so that hungry markets in America can be fed, (and) your sister state in Alaska has those resources."

At the time, it was thought that Chukchi's waters northwest of Alaska's landmass held 30 billion cubic feet of natural gas.

Today, Science magazine reports that the U.S. Geological Survey now finds it holds more than anyone thought — 1.6 trillion cubic feet of undiscovered gas, or 30% of the world's supply and 83 billion barrels of undiscovered oil, 4% of the global conventional resources.

That's enough U.S. energy to achieve self-sufficiency and never worry about it as a national security question again.

The only thing left to do is drill. "Congress can do that for us right now," Palin told IBD, urging Washington to open the territory.

That Congress hasn't is the biggest part of the problem.

"Alaska should be the head, not the tail, to the energy solution," Palin said.

It ought to be reassuring to Americans that energy can be developed here. Americans are environmentally conscious, and Palin herself has a good record on balancing development with ecology.

The alternative isn't reassuring: If we don't drill, the Russians will. Situated over on the eastern end of the Chukchi Sea, they have global ambitions of dominating the energy trade and no qualms about muscling in on the U.S.

Are All Ethnic Backgrounds Compelling or Just Some?

by Janet Crain
Who is Hispanic? Since some have been saying that Sonia Sotomayor would not really be the first Hispanic on the SCOTUS, Judge Sotomayor and her supporters have begun leaning more toward describing her as a Latina woman. Because it surely cannot be claimed that Cordoza was that. :-) I have to admit that after reading the Freedictionary description below I was more confused than ever. Portugal is not considered Hispanic although all of South America is. And Brazil is Portuguese. My head is swimming. Add to that the genetic simularities of the people and it's even more confusing. Perhaps we should disregard all these labels and start looking at people and not assume having an ethnic background translates as a person who has suffered and is consequently more empathetic toward others. Perhaps that is also not true. I think some people who have suffered become bitter and mean as a snake. Others from privileged backgrounds are very compassionate.

Look at the person, not the background.

Cardozo was born in New York City, the son of Rebecca Washington (née Nathan) and Albert Jacob Cardozo.[1] Both Cardozo's maternal grandparents, Sara Seixas and Isaac Mendes Seixas Nathan, and his paternal grandparents, Ellen Hart and Michael H. Cardozo, were Sephardi Jews; their families immigrated from England before the American Revolution, and were descended from Jews who left the Iberian Peninsula for Holland during the Inquisition.[1] Cardozo family tradition held that their ancestors were Marranos from Portugal,[1] although Cardozo's ancestry has not been firmly traced to Portugal.[2]

Sotomayor is listed as a Sephardic Jewish name dating from the 1450s in Spain. It appears in many Sephardic name lists. In the Pre-Inquisition and for a century-plus after, the term "Portuguese" meant "Sephardic Jewish." In 1492, at the Expulsion, thousands of Jews went to Portugal where they thought they would be safe. Unfortunately, just a few years later, they again had to make the choice of convert to Catholicism under force or leave. In many cases, they were forced to convert through the forcible taking of their children. To Sephardim, there is no difference between Spanish and Portuguese.

The people of Puerto Rico represent a cultural and racial mix. When the Spanish forced the Taíno people into slavery, the entire indigenous population was virtually decimated, except for a few Amerindians who escaped into the remote mountains. Eventually they inter-married with the poor Spanish farmers and became known as jíbaros. Because of industrialization and migration to the cities, few jíbaros remain.

Besides the slaves imported from Africa (Sudan, Kongo, Senegal, Guinea, Sierra Leona, and the Gold, Ivory, and Grain coasts), other ethnic groups brought to work on the plantations joined the island's racial mix. Fleeing Simón Bolívar's independence movements in South America, Spanish loyalists fled to Puerto Rico - a fiercely conservative Spanish colony during the early 1800s. French families also flocked here from both Louisiana and Haiti. As changing governments or violent revolutions depressed the economies of Scotland and Ireland, many farmers from those countries also journeyed to Puerto Rico in search of a better life.

When the United States acquired the island in 1898, American influence was added to culture.

During the mid-19th century, labor was needed to build roads, initially, Chinese workers were imported for this task, followed by workers from such countries as Italy, France, Germany, and even Lebanon. American expatriates came to the island after 1898. Long after Spain had lost control of Puerto Rico, Spanish immigrants continued to arrive on the island. The most significant new immigrant population arrived in the 1960s, when thousands of Cubans fled from Fidel Castro's Communist state. The latest arrivals to Puerto Rico have come from the economically depressed Dominican Republic.

His·pan·ic (h-sp nik)
adj.
1. Of or relating to Spain or Spanish-speaking Latin America.
2. Of or relating to a Spanish-speaking people or culture.
n.
1. A Spanish-speaking person.
2. A U.S. citizen or resident of Latin-American or Spanish descent.

[Latin Hisp nicus, from Hisp nia, Spain.]

Usage Note: Though often used interchangeably in American English, Hispanic and Latino are not identical terms, and in certain contexts the choice between them can be significant. Hispanic, from the Latin word for "Spain," has the broader reference, potentially encompassing all Spanish-speaking peoples in both hemispheres and emphasizing the common denominator of language among communities that sometimes have little else in common. Latino which in Spanish means "Latin" but which as an English word is probably a shortening of the Spanish word latinoamericano refers more exclusively to persons or communities of Latin American origin. Of the two, only Hispanic can be used in referring to Spain and its history and culture; a native of Spain residing in the United States is a Hispanic, not a Latino, and one cannot substitute Latino in the phrase the Hispanic influence on native Mexican cultures without garbling the meaning. In practice, however, this distinction is of little significance when referring to residents of the United States, most of whom are of Latin American origin and can theoretically be called by either word.·A more important distinction concerns the sociopolitical rift that has opened between Latino and Hispanic in American usage. For a certain segment of the Spanish-speaking population, Latino is a term of ethnic pride and Hispanic a label that borders on the offensive. According to this view, Hispanic lacks the authenticity and cultural resonance of Latino, with its Spanish sound and its ability to show the feminine form Latina when used of women. Furthermore, Hispanic the term used by the U.S. Census Bureau and other government agencies is said to bear the stamp of an Anglo establishment far removed from the concerns of the Spanish-speaking community. While these views are strongly held by some, they are by no means universal, and the division in usage seems as related to geography as it is to politics, with Latino widely preferred in California and Hispanic the more usual term in Florida and Texas. Even in these regions, however, usage is often mixed, and it is not uncommon to find both terms used by the same writer or speaker. See Usage Note at Chicano.

Spanish Inquisition left genetic legacy in Iberia

It's not often that cultural and religious persecution makes countries more diverse, but the Spanish Inquisition might have done just that.

One in five Spaniards and Portuguese has a Jewish ancestor, while a tenth of Iberians boast North African ancestors, finds new research.

This melting pot probably occurred after centuries of coexistence and tolerance among Muslims, Jews and Christians ended in 1492, when Catholic monarchs converted or expelled the Islamic population, called Moriscos. Sephardic Jews, whose Iberian roots extend to the first century AD, received much the same treatment.

Pardon Me, May I Break In?

by Janet Crain
California is broke as we all know. In fact, the rest of the nation may have to bail out this prolifigate spender. Now the latest from that la la land is that they may have to release 25% of their prisoners in order to comply with a ruling that they aren't providing good enough medical care (although they spend an average of $1400 per month per prisoner) and they must attend to the prisoners' recreation and spiritual needs with full court basketball facilities, electronic bingo parlors, aroma therapy and yoga.
I kid you not!!!!

"SACRAMENTO -- California's attorney general asked a federal appeals court Wednesday to block what he described as an extravagant spending proposal for prison medical facilities.

The Legislature has refused to act on the request for $8 billion made by the court-appointed receiver overseeing overhaul of California's prison health care system. Receiver J. Clark Kelso is seeking an immediate $250 million as a down payment.

In his court filing, Attorney General Jerry Brown argued that a federal judge cannot order the money from the state treasury without violating federal law and state sovereignty.

Brown also criticized the receiver's spending proposal, saying it has not been subject to proper review. He said the plan includes regulation-size basketball courts, electronic bingo boards, music and art therapy rooms, and landscaping to hide fences.

Brown cited additional amenities in a news release accompanying his court filing, including yoga rooms and horticulture therapy, that were included in an earlier draft from the receiver's office.
Like I said, the objective is to goldplate and Constitutionalize resort like conditions as a way to get all the violent felons released. That's the liberal goal, and has been for decades.

That way they will have room for gun owners and cigarette smokers."

The Punishment of White Males for Perceived Past Wrongs Continues

by Janet Crain
Where does the MSM get the idea that no white male exists that has a compelling life story? That every white male was born with a silver spoon in his mouth? This is racism. What is racism? Judging people by their race. What is genderism? Judging people by their gender. They are all wrong and demeaning to human achievement.

Couric and Schieffer Gush Over Sotomayor's 'Very, Very Compelling' Bio

Moments after President Obama announced his pick of Judge Sonia Sotomayor for the Supreme Court, CBS’s Bob Schieffer and Katie Couric enthused over what Couric called Sotomayor’s “very, very compelling life story,” with Schieffer cheering that she was “the political advisor’s dream candidate.”

“This woman has a life story that you couldn’t make up!” Schieffer exulted: “She’s born in the public projects, in the shadow of Yankee stadium, a single parent household, she goes to a Catholic school, she gets scholarships to the best schools in the country, Princeton and Yale, she overcomes all that while dealing with diabetes all her life, and she is Hispanic. This will be a historic pick.”

Some Gave All...................

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields

Why Does Wanda Sykes Get a Pass?

From Eric

Wanda Sykes is a black, female, lesbian, liberal. Rush Limbaugh is a white, male, heterosexual, conservative. Therefore, his criticism of Barack Obama’s policies are considered hate speech, while her calling Rush a murderer who she wished death upon is considered comedy.

I personally have never had any major objections to Wanda Sykes. I find her humor tasteless, but nothing more. Her skit about tying the feet of black quarterbacks so they would stop running around may have been the death knell for the once brilliant program “Inside the NFL,” but by then the show was already in free fall.

Yet suppose I were to remark that as punishment for her poor humor and caustic comments, she should be waterboarded or hung from the nearest tree. I would be branded a racist, a sexist, and a bigot. I might be arrested and charged with plotting a hate crime. The reason for this is because there is nothing funny or humorous about killing somebody.

Yet liberals fail to respect this view.

Jon Stewart and other comedians have referred to George W. Bush as a war criminal. Leftist radio personalities joke about raping Laura Bush and Condoleezza Rice. “Abort Sarah Palin” t-shirts are trendy among Democrats on college campuses. Miss California Carrie Prejean was verbally and emotionally violated by Perez Hilton, who feels that spreading ideological bigotry is the way to spread tolerance of his own lifestyle.

Now Rush Limbaugh is being Garofaloed by Wanda Sykes.

Just Being Pretty Safe is Not Enough.........

Former Vice President Dick Cheney on Thursday leveled his harshest indictment yet of President Barack Obama’s approach to the war on terror, saying the president’s efforts to dismantle Bush-era policies have left the nation dangerously exposed to another attack.

“If liberals are unhappy about some decisions, and conservatives are unhappy about other decisions, then it may seem to them that the President is on the path of sensible compromise,” Cheney said. “But in the fight against terrorism, there is no middle ground, and half-measures keep you half exposed.”

“You cannot keep just some nuclear-armed terrorists out of the United States, you must keep every nuclear-armed terrorist out of the United States. Triangulation is a political strategy, not a national security strategy,” Cheney said.

He also says those who call Bush interrogation practices torture — as Obama has — are people who engage in “contrived indignation and phony moralizing on the interrogation methods applied to a few captured terrorists.”

With most Republicans wanting to move forward rather than relitigate the unpopular Bush years, Cheney stepped into the void at the American Enterprise Institute with what amounted to a rebuttal of Obama’s own national security address and a robust defense of the Bush practices.

An unapologetic Cheney gave no ground, and aimed his fire squarely at a president who, in keeping with his political modus operandi, had just sought to balance the demands of left and right.

“There is never a good time to compromise when the lives and safety of the American people are in the balance," he said.

Fran and the Man.........

Hat Tip Chickaboomer

by Janet Crain
A hot new television show in the Summer lineup is Fran and the Man. Starring Fran Dresler as herself and Bill Clinton as himself, the fireworks will debut just as soon as the SOTUS sees this. Ms. Dresler, washed up former actress, now activist and promoter of silly slightly important causes is sure to rekindle her former reputation as a hot chick no one wants to listen to. Bill Clinton demonstrates the old adage "once a dog, always a dog."

The presentation is set to air in the former American Idol time slot so as to cash in that audience's habitual viewing habits.

Former US president Bill Clinton met Fran Drescher at the Life Ball charity event in Vienna over the past weekend. And he was caught on camera
groping the actress. It seems that he likes to keep his fingers on the pulse of the important issues.

Former president Bill Clinton met Fran Drescher at the Life Ball charity event in Vienna over the past weekend. What happened was an embarrassing brush between the two. The jury is still out on whether giving a hand in this way can happen accidentally.

Drescher is an Emmy Award and Golden Globe nominated American film and television actress, comedian, and activist.

Buy American!!!!!!!!

WE NEED TO TAKE CONTROL OF OUR OWN FUTURE.
BEGIN NOW, NOT LATER.

Are we Americans as dumb as we appear --- or --- is it that we just do not think?
While the Chinese, knowingly and intentionally, export inferior and even toxic products and dangerous toys and goods to be sold in American markets, the media just wring their hands blaming the government and do nothing.
Yet 70% of Americans believe that the trading privileges afforded to the Chinese should be suspended.
Well, duh..why do you need the government to suspend trading privileges?
SIMPLY DO IT YOURSELF, AMERICA!!
Simply look on the bottom of every product you buy, and if it says 'Made in China' or 'PRC' (and that now includes Hong Kong), simply choose another product, or none at all. You will be amazed at how dependent you are on Chinese products, and you will be equally amazed at what you can do without. Who needs plastic eggs to celebrate Easter?
If you must have eggs, use real ones and benefit an American farmer. Easter is just an example, the point is..do not wait for the government to act. Just go ahead and assume control on your own.
THINK ABOUT THIS ......
If 200 million Americans refuse to buy just $20 each of Chinese goods, that's a four billion dollar trade imbalance resolved in our favor...fast!!
The downside? Some American businesses will feel a temporary pinch from having foreign stockpiles of inventory.. Wahhhhhhhhhhhh
The solution ?
Let's give them fair warning and send our own message. Most of the people who have been reading about this matter are planning on implementing this on June 4, and continue it until July 4.
That is only one month of trading losses, but it will hit the Chinese for 1/12th of the total, or 8%, of their American exports. Then they will at least have to ask themselves if the benefits of their arrogance and lawlessness were worth it.
Remember, June 4 to July 4!
EVEN BETTER. . .. START NOW.
Send this to everybody you know. Show them we are Americans and NOBODY can take us for granted. If we can't live without cheap Chinese goods for one month out of our lives, THEN WE DESERVE WHAT WE GET!
Pass it on, America

Life Down the *Rabbit Hole

by Janet Crain
Imagine if Patrick Henry had said: "Give me taxes or give me death". I believe our side would have obliged him at the nearest oak tree.

Is Colin Powell going senile? In 1995 and 1996 he stated the exact opposite of this. Has he sucked down so much Obama-aide he can't think straight? Does he really believe he has a position in the Republican Party? Other than the facetious HOTRP position given to him by Rush Limbaugh?

"The Republican Party is in deep trouble," Powell told corporate security executives at a conference in Washington sponsored by Fortify Software Inc. The party must realize that the country has changed, he said. "Americans do want to pay taxes for services," he said. "Americans are looking for more government in their life, not less."

The Republican Party is in big trouble and needs to find a way to move back to the middle of the country, former Secretary of State Colin Powell said Monday.

Powell said the GOP is "getting smaller and smaller" and "that's not good for the nation." He also said he hopes that emerging GOP leaders, such as House Minority Whip Cantor, will not keep repeating mantras of the far right.

"The Republican Party is in deep trouble," Powell told corporate security executives at a conference in Washington sponsored by Fortify Software Inc. The party must realize that the country has changed, he said. "Americans do want to pay taxes for services," he said. "Americans are looking for more government in their life, not less."

Powell, secretary of State during the first term of former President George W. Bush, made waves last year when he came out for the Democratic presidential candidate, then-Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois. Powell described the 2008 GOP candidate, Sen. John McCain of Arizona, as "a beloved friend" but said he told him last summer that the party had developed a reputation for being mean-spirited and driven more by social conservatism than the economic problems that Americans faced.

Powell also criticized other GOP leaders, for bowing too much to the right.

He blasted radio commentator Rush Limbaugh, saying he does not believe that Limbaugh or conservative icon Ann Coulter serve the party well. He said the party lacks a "positive" spokesperson. "I think what Rush does as an entertainer diminishes the party and intrudes or inserts into our public life a kind of nastiness that we would be better to do without," Powell said.

He also said that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, McCain's running mate last year, is "a very accomplished person" but became "a very polarizing figure." He said the polarization was created by Palin's advisers.

The Speaker Is in the House

"Democrats have a genius for knitting nooses for themselves."
King James Bible

Proverbs 26-27

Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him.

Nancy Pelosi is a bit like Britain's Margaret Thatcher in reverse. Mrs. T. was tough and steely in her public role as prime minister, but womanly, flirtatious, even gossipy, in private. (One of her cabinet members once told me he harbored erotic thoughts about Maggie as she walked past him, trailing a "whiff of Chanel.") In Pelosi's case, it's the other way around.

When I first talked to her at her office on Capitol Hill in the third week of April, she had just come from a sisterly ceremony, sharing a platform with Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton to unveil a bust of the legendary slave, abolitionist and suffragist Sojourner Truth at Emancipation Hall. The specter of briefings on the netherworld of the CIA's "enhanced interrogation techniques" could not have been more at odds with the aura of lunch-club femininity the Speaker projected with her lilac Armani pantsuit, professional gracious smile and freshly coiffed hair. ("She always was put together," one of the five Pelosi offspring, filmmaker Alexandra Pelosi, told me. "She never drove carpool in her pajamas, she always got dressed.")

But when the door to the Speaker's office closes, she is fast-talking, formidable, high-energy and supremely self—confident—more Baltimore's Little Italy, where she was raised in a powerful political family, than latte-sipping San Francisco, where she has lived for 40 years as the wife of a rich financier.

Leaning forward in a straight-back chair, she refers several times for emphasis to a small laminated bookmark listing the eight major bills her leadership has pushed through the House in Obama's first 100 days. "I'm disciplined. I keep informed. I know the policies. I understand the people," she rattles off, when asked how she has consolidated her power base in the House.

The only moment she gives a mildly beseeching glance at her press secretary is when I ask her when and what she knew about "waterboarding."

It's a fact that on Sept. 4, 2002, she was briefed by the CIA on its "enhanced interrogation techniques," along with Republican Porter Goss (the GOP's Richard Shelby and Democrat Bob Graham, the other two members of the "Gang of Four" intelligence--committee leaders, were briefed separately, three weeks later). What's very much in dispute is what they heard. Pelosi insists that she was briefed just this one time, and only on the fact that administration lawyers had concluded certain techniques were legal—not the truth that emerged later, which was that Al Qaeda suspect Abu Zubaydah had already been waterboarded 83 times following his capture in Pakistan in March 2002. "Any contention to the contrary is simply not true," she said.

Democrats have a genius for knitting nooses for themselves. Nancy Pelosi was having it pretty much all her way in Congress until President Obama released the Bush administration's legal memos on torture.

Joe, Joe, Joe, say it ain't so.....

How do you know when Joe Biden is committing a gaffe? When his lips are moving! JC

Vice President Joe Biden, well-known for his verbal gaffes, may have finally outdone himself, divulging potentially classified information meant to save the life of a sitting vice president.

According to a report, while recently attending the Gridiron Club dinner in Washington, an annual event where powerful politicians and media elite get a chance to cozy up to one another, Biden told his dinnermates about the existence of a secret bunker under the old U.S. Naval Observatory, which is now the home of the vice president.

The bunker is believed to be the secure, undisclosed location former Vice President Dick Cheney remained under protection in secret after the 9/11 attacks.

Eleanor Clift, Newsweek magazine's Washington contributing editor, said Biden revealed the location while filling in for President Obama at the dinner, who, along with Grover Cleveland, is the only president to skip the gathering.

According to Clift's report on the Newsweek blog, Biden "said a young naval officer giving him a tour of the residence showed him the hideaway, which is behind a massive steel door secured by an elaborate lock with a narrow connecting hallway lined with shelves filled with communications equipment."

Clift continued: "The officer explained that when Cheney was in lock down, this was where his most trusted aides were stationed, an image that Biden conveyed in a way that suggested we shouldn't be surprised that the policies that emerged were off the wall."

On Monday, Biden's press office issued a statement in response to this story, denying the bunker report.

Latest Gallup Poll Finds Support for Pro-Life Position in Majority for First Time Since 1995

So why are we allowing Obama to push his agenda down our throats. Call your senators and ask them to oppose Dawn Johnsen's appointment.

Call here 1-202-224-3121

Known for her role in the writing of the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA), comparing pregnancy to slavery, viewing pro-life protesters as akin to the KKK, demanding that churches lose their tax exempt status for advocating for protection of the unborn, and serving as the legal director for the National Abortion Rights League (NARAL), Dawn Johnsen has demonstrated a complete disregard for unbiased interpretation of law, a key element for the job for which Obama has nominated her: Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Legal Counsel.

As present, it looks as if the Democrats don’t have the 60 votes needed to confirm the radical Dawn Johnsen. Senator Harry Reid recently admitted that there are not even enough votes from the Democrats to bring her name up for a vote.

NEW GALLUP POLL

Obama and Congress on Collision Course with Public Opinion on Abortion
Latest Gallup Poll Finds Support for Pro-Life Position in Majority
for First Time Since 1995

Washington, D.C. – In response to today’s release of polling data from the Gallup’s Annual Values and Beliefs Survey, Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser offered the following statement:

"These polling results confirm a long trend: Americans are increasingly identifying with the position of protecting human life. It’s not shocking that we’re seeing stronger pro-life opinions. This trend has been steady since the early ‘90s. What is interesting is American’s shift in self-labeling to a majority ‘pro-life’ identification. Americans are now seeing through the PR-generated label, ‘pro-choice.’ Sonograms and real-life experience have deemed this label hollow. President Obama and the pro-abortion majority in Congress are in a collision course with public opinion on abortion policy. What we’re debating right now – taxpayer funding for abortion – dramatically outstrips public opinion.”

This is the first time since 1995 that the majority of Americans have identified themselves as pro-life in Gallup’s Annual Values and Beliefs Survey. Gallup proposed that the shift could be due to President Obama’s overreach on the issue. They posit: “It is possible that, through his abortion policies, Obama has pushed the public's understanding of what it means to be ‘pro-choice’ slightly to the left, politically. While Democrats may support that, as they generally support everything Obama is doing as president, it may be driving others in the opposite direction.”

“GOP leaders across the nation should take note of both this week’s poll and last week’s Pew research that show the pro-life position is strengthening the Republican Party,” said Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “It’s time to abandon the ‘blame pro-lifers first’ approach when the GOP loses. If Republicans want to improve their electoral performance, standing on the side of Life is one of the best decisions they can make.”

Earlier this month, a national survey by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press found overall support for abortion down, and that the largest numbers of converts to the pro-life cause have been self-identified independents and liberal to moderate Republicans.

The Susan B. Anthony List is a nationwide network of Americans, over 156,000 residing in all 50 states, dedicated to mobilizing, advancing, and representing pro-life women in politics. Its connected Candidate Fund increases the percentage of pro-life women in the political process.

Notre Dame Disgraces its Itself

by Janet Crain
One professor says it is more important that his student do things like help rebuild homes for Katrina victims to show that they are "pro-life", but I say if his students rebuild the entire city of New Orleans with fabulous skyscrapers and a beautiful home for everyone to live in, and have not LOVE for the unborn it is but a sounding of brass, or a tinkling cymbal .

<<1 Corinthians 13-1>>

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

And I am reminded that when Henry David Thoreau went to jail to protest slavery, Ralph Waldo Emerson visited him and asked; “Why are you here?” to which Thoreau replied; “Why are you not here?”

How many of us would go to jail for our beliefs?

19 arrested at Notre Dame protest against Obama

The story

Nineteen demonstrators were arrested at the University of Notre Dame on Saturday as they protested against President Obama's scheduled commencement speech Sunday, campus police said.

The protesters were not students and they were arrested for trespassing when they stepped on the campus, which is private property, Notre Dame police spokesman Dennis Brown told CNN Radio.

Obama's plan to address the university's 2009 graduating class on Sunday has touched off a firestorm. At issue are the president's pro-choice abortion beliefs, which run counter to the Catholic Church's official anti-abortion stance, and his support for federal funding of stem-cell research. Liar, Liar!!! Pants Suit on Fire!!!

Hat Tip: Don
by Janet Crain

What Did She Know and When Did She Know It?
Remember, in 2002 Pelosi wasn't just another of the 435 members of the House but was in fact the ranking Democratic member on the House Intelligence Committee, and as such, was one of 4 members of Congress to get these classified briefings about what the CIA was up to.

This is not the first time Ms. Pelosi has been driven by her own hubris to make a disastrous move. She would pull the entire house of cards Democratic Party down on her head rather than keep her mouth shut and be thought a crook, she insists on removing all doubt!!!

PLEASE VOTE IN OUR POLL

"House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says that she was misled by the CIA on waterboarding. She spent eight years complaining about how dumb President Bush was and the minute she's in trouble, she says he fooled her." - Jay Leno

Washington Post:

Nancy Pelosi is a woman of many talents. Yesterday, she performed the delicate art of backtracking while walking sideways.

The speaker of the House had just read a statement accusing the CIA of lying and was trying to beat a hasty retreat from her news conference before reporters could point out contradictions between her current position and her previous statements.
“Thank you!” an aide called out to signal an end to the session. Pelosi walked, sideways, away from the lectern and, still sidling in a sort of crab walk, was halfway to the door when a yell from CNN’s Dana Bash, rising above the rest of the shouting, froze her in the aisle. …

Over the next few minutes of shouted questions — “They lied to you? Were you justified? When were you first told? Did you protest? Why didn’t you tell us?” — the speaker attempted the crab-walk retreat again, returned to the lectern again and then finally skittered out of the room.

AP – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of Calif. is seen on Capitol Hill in Washington, Thursday, May 14, 2009. Earlier …

WASHINGTON – The head of the CIA defended the agency Friday against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's charge that she was misled in 2002 about the use of waterboarding, but he said it ultimately is up to Congress to decide where the truth lies.

"Let me be clear. It is not our policy or practice to mislead Congress," CIA Director Leon Panetta wrote in a message to agency employees that was released to the public. "That is against our laws and our values."

Referring to Pelosi's remarks, he said, "The political debate over interrogation reached a new decibel level yesterday."

Panetta's rebuttal was far more muted that a counterattack the Republicans unleashed against Pelosi.

"I think her accusations against our terror-fighters are irresponsible and, according to the CIA's record, Speaker Pelosi was briefed on what had been done," said Sen. Kit Bond of Missouri, the senior Republican on the Senate Intelligence Committee. "It's outrageous that a member of Congress would call our terror-fighters liars."

Pelosi drew the criticism a day after opening her weekly news conference with a prepared statement accusing agency briefers of misleading her in 2002 in connection with the use of waterboarding, an interrogation technique that simulates drowning.

In the statement, she repeated that she was not told that waterboarding had been used, even though it had been, and said an aide informed her of its use after other lawmakers had been briefed in 2003.

Pelosi has been the target of a campaign orchestrated in recent days by the House Republican leadership, which is eager to undercut her statements as well as stick Democrats with partial responsibility for the use of waterboarding in the Bush administration.

Some Democrats have expressed surprise that she chose to inject herself more deeply into the controversy, especially at a time when President Barack Obama enjoys widespread public support and Republicans are suffering extremely low approval ratings. Associates of the California Democrat say she decided it was an error to allow Republican attacks to go unanswered any longer.

At the White House, spokesman Robert Gibbs decided to stay out of the controversy. "I appreciate the invitation to get involved but I'll decline to R.S.V.P.." He said the president wanted to look forward, not back.

Suspect detained over 'extremist' bumper sticker

Suspect detained over 'extremist' bumper sticker
'Don't Tread on Me' puts driver in 'watch' category in DHS report

A Louisiana driver was stopped and detained for having a "Don't Tread on Me" bumper sticker on his vehicle and warned by a police officer about the "subversive" message it sent, according to the driver's relative.

The situation developed in the small town of Ball, La., where a receptionist at the police department told WND she knew nothing about the traffic stop, during which the "suspect" was investigated for "extremist" activities, the relative said.

A man identifying himself as a police officer from Ball called WND later to report that the town's records of traffic stops did not include this situation. He suggested it might have involved one of several other agencies that work in the area.

It followed by only a few weeks the release of a Department of Homeland Security report, "Right-wing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment", which prompted outrage from legislators and a campaign calling for the resignation of DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano.

The report, which cites individuals who sport certain bumper stickers on their vehicles as suspect, was delivered to tens of thousands of local law enforcement officers across the nation.

WND is withholding the driver's name and the relative's name at their request.
