For a job that pays nothing, being FLOTUS has some darn good benefits. Flying all over the world on a super luxurious jet, meeting royalty and celebrities, living in a fabulous historical mansion, and looking forward to having ghosted writing an eight figure advance book post FLOTUS.

Walkin' the Dog.......

Wow!!! The contrast is striking. Nancy Reagan dressed to the nines to walk the dog and Michelle Obama ....... well, what can I say?

Am I being nit picky?

It's just that, frankly, the first lady has nothing to do except look nice and represent the USA in a positive way.

I remember reading that among the FLOTUS's staff, there's a person whose only job is to take care of the FLOTUS's clothes. Send them to the laundry or cleaners. And keep a record book of what was worn when and where.

I can't imagine that has been a very hard job lately.

Michelle Hits Her Stride

Michelle Obama said; " I hope that Sojourner Truth would be proud to see me, a descendant of slaves, serving as the first lady of the United States of America." Well, at least she is a descendant of slaves because Obama sure isn't the descendant of any African slaves held in America.

In truth we are all the descendants of slaves. I can assure you if you have any Native American blood you descend (if not directly then collaterally) from slaves. And they were held in legal bondage by European settlers. Additionally you have ancestors (if not directly then collaterally) who were indentured servants and they were held in legal bondage, some for life by persons with enough money to buy their indenture cheaply and work them to death in many cases.Many did not voluntarily enter into these contracts, but were kidnapped "kidnabbed" by thugs who sold them to ship captains, who resold them to the highest bidder in the Colonies.

Before that many were held in legal bondage as serfs in Europe and other countries. They were forbidden to leave the estate they were born on and eventually died on. They worked for a hovel to live in, rags to wear and swill to eat. No salary. The Vikings kidnapped slaves from Ireland and the coast of England for a very long time. The word slave comes from Slav, blond European people, often enslaved and sold to the Middle East.

So having ancestors as slaves is not unique, nor does it give you any special cred. It is sad and unfortunate your ancestor had to suffer but you didn't. So I am appalled that the First Lady is behaving in such a prejudiced manner in her invitations to the White House, as described in Newsweek's "Michelle Hits Her Stride".

There have been plenty of un-veiling ceremonies for new statues at the U.S. Capitol. But when Michelle Obama peeled the cover off the bronze bust of abolitionist Sojourner Truth last week, the moment was heavy with symbolism. Truth is the first African-American woman to be honored with a statue in the Capitol. In a way no first lady before her ever could have done, Obama connected the dots between herself and the black feminist pioneer. "Now many young boys and girls like my own daughters will come to Emancipation Hall and see the face of a woman who looks like them," she told the gathering. "I hope that Sojourner Truth would be proud to see me, a descendant of slaves, serving as the first lady of the United States of America."

It was just the kind of scene I'd been hoping for when Barack Obama won the presidency last fall. I knew that Michelle Obama was already changing the way we see ourselves as African-American women. But I also hoped she would begin to knock down ugly stereotypes and educate people about American black culture. What's remarkable now—just over that much-hyped 100-day mark—is how quickly and decisively Michelle has taken on the issues that matter most to us.

From the start, Michelle never shied away from being an African-American role model. "I think it's clear that Michelle Obama is very comfortable in her own skin,'' says Debbie Walsh, director of the Center of American Women in Politics at Rutgers University. "She's not sending a message that I'm the first lady who just happens to be African-American. She's saying I'm an African-American first lady. There is a difference, and she's not afraid to show that.''

One place that difference is already showing up: the White House guest list. When Michelle held a daylong program for Women's History Month in March, white celebs Sheryl Crow and Fran Drescher were among the invited "role models." But "I would say that 80 percent of the women role models were African-American," says Debra Lee, chairman and CEO of BET Holdings, who was asked to speak. "And that was just amazing to be a part of because these women are just not given that type of recognition enough."

The kicks, made by high-end French fashion label Lanvin, cost $540.

Michelle Obama has taken casual to a haute new level.

While volunteering Wednesday at a D.C. food bank, the First Lady sported her usual J.Crew cardigan, a pair of utilitarian capri pants and, on her feet, a sneaky splurge: trainers that go for $540.

That's right: These sneakers - suede, with grosgrain ribbon laces and metallic pink toe caps - are made by French design house Lanvin, one of fashion's hottest labels. They come in denim and satin versions, and have been a brisk seller all spring.

They're out of stock at posh Meatpacking District boutique Jeffrey, and Barneys New York boasts a limited selection of the sneaks, which are a cult favorite among fashionistas.

It's likely Michelle got hers through Ikram, the Chicago retailer that often outfits her.

"They're shoes," the First Lady's reps sniffed when curious reporters inquired about the fancy footwear.

Michelle has stepped out in Lanvin before while getting down to business. A week ago, she shoveled dirt at a tree planting while wearing the line's chiffon tank. (Doesn't everyone shovel dirt wearing a chiffon top? JC)

Dresses and strappy pumps cost upward of $1,500, while tops go for $400 to $1,000.

Other celebrity fans of Lanvin's costly kicks include Ellen DeGeneres and Kanye West, who has blogged about his faves.

As the family's primary dog walker, Michelle clearly requires comfortable footwear.

"I got up at 5:15 in the morning to walk my puppy," she joked Thursday. "That's how my day starts. Even though the kids are supposed to do a lot of the work, I'm still up at 5:15 a.m. taking my dog out."

The Bow Seen Round the World

Who prepared Barack and Michelle Obama for this trip? They should have known you do not touch the Queen of England and you do not bow to foreign dignitaries lest our nation be placed in an inferior position.

The truth to tell a community organizer from Chicago is running this country. Through no fault of those of us who did not vote for him for POTUS, he is embarrassing us around the world.

The Obamas' gauche behavior makes one want to crawl under something.

The only cure for this situation is time. And right now time is not flying.

Cafferty's Crush on Michelle Obama is a Painful Thing to Observe

CNN's Jack Cafferty Confesses His 'Crush
on Michelle Obama'

CNN commentator Jack Cafferty flat out admitted in a CNN.com commentary on Tuesday that he is "developing a crush on America's first lady," Michelle Obama: "Michelle Obama is more compelling than her husband. He's good, but she's utterly fascinating....Mrs. Obama has blown away the stale air in a White House musty from eight years of the Bushes. It's like the sun came out and a fresh spring breeze began wafting through the open windows."

After admitting his crush and comparing her to fair weather, Cafferty pushed Mrs. Obama's populist credentials, compared to past First Ladies: "It's the people's house, and Michelle Obama totally gets it. So much so that she has taken to inviting people in from the streets to see her home. Nice touch -- one completely lacking in her recent predecessors."

The commentator then focused the next few paragraphs to how well people react to the current First Lady, all the time exuding his admiration for her: "Watch her when she visits a local school and you see the warmth and affection she instantly triggers in people. Kids are pretty much totally honest with very good BS-detectors. If they sense you're a phony, forget it. But around the first lady, they want to hug her and laugh with her and tell her stories."

Let's give credit where credit is due. Google "laura bush school visits" and you will find many examples of Laura Bush visiting schools around the world. Her reception by the children was always like the photo above. I just hope that Michelle Obama can come UP to Laura Bush's standard when she is called upon to play hostess to visiting dignitaries. We already know her husband is not exactly a stellar host.

Cafferty Can't Stop Talking About ...... Sarah Palin

CNN's Jack Cafferty Mocks Sarah Palin...Yet
Again

When he's not gushing over the Obamas, you can make a fair bet that CNN commentator Jack Cafferty is bashing conservatives, and he returned to one of his favorite subjects of scorn during his regular "Cafferty File" segment on Thursday's Situation Room -- Sarah Palin. He labeled three quotes from a recent speech the Alaska Governor gave as "painful." He concluded his commentary by remarking that "whoever said truth is stranger than fiction must have met this woman."

The CNN commentator also hinted twice during the segment that the Alaska Governor was unintelligible. During the commentary, the commentator remarked that Palin "talked about why the Republicans lost in November, and seemed mostly to blame the press, at least I think that's what she said." Later, after Blitzer stated that the Governor would be visiting Washington and that they were going to try to have her on the program, Cafferty laughed and replied: "Well, let's hope so. Maybe you can understand her."

Cafferty began by reading the quotes without an attribution and asked his viewers to see if they could guess who gave them. After reading the first two, he labeled them "vintage Sarah Palin." After reading the third quote and labeling all three "painful," and summarizing what Palin had talked about during her speech, he asked his "Question of the Hour:" "Is Sarah Palin still relevant to the national dialogue?"

As you might expect, all but one of the viewer responses that Cafferty read at the end of the hour bashed the Alaska governor to one degree or another. The sole exception actually targeted the commentator himself: "Given she's the subject of at least one of your questions every time she opens her mouth, it must mean she's still relevant to the national dialogue!" That person has apparently been paying attention, since Cafferty devoted 35% of his "Questions of the Hour" over a month period between late August and the end of September 2008 to talking about Palin.

Who's Really Running This Country?

Barack Obama's Teleprompter Has A Blog. TOTUS is also twittering, and right now as I write this has 1,605 followers. That is 1,605 more followers then Joe Biden's Teleprompter. This is so funny. And sure enough as soon as President Obama went off the teleprompter last night on Jay Leno, he committed a serious gaffe. I am sure Teleprompter is much more sensitive and quick on his feet and wouldn't have said something so dumb thoughtless.

Readers may recall the question arising as to what who Michelle Obama had in that brown bag on the Valentine's Day night out in Chicago. Now we know!

Has Michelle Obama Been Stiffing The IRS Too?

For years, the press excoriated Nancy Reagan for borrowing clothes and jewelry from designers. Yet Michelle Obama has been doing the same thing — without any outcry from the media.

Accountants say that the first lady’s practice of borrowing both clothes and jewelry raises major tax and disclosure issues, not to mention ethical questions.

“The transactions are clearly taxable,” says Richard Rampell, a Palm Beach, Fla., accountant whose clients include several of the island’s billionaires. “The designers are indirectly paying Michelle Obama to go and display their wares. And they get a huge economic value for it, just as if they were paying a model to do this. If they are paying her in this indirect way by lending her their clothes, then she is actually performing a service for the designer, and she should have to recognize as income whatever the value is of the clothes that she got.”

Aside from the tax implications, Obama is obligated to report the value of the clothes she has received free of charge on government forms mandated by the Ethics in Government Act.

The items Obama has either borrowed or received free have included a $17,313 pair of Loree Rodkin diamond earrings and clothes and gowns worth $1,000 to $6,000. In some cases, Michelle Obama’s representatives have said she will donate the items to the Smithsonian.

That makes no difference, Rampell says.

“If somebody gives her a dress and it’s worth $6,000, and she’s not expected to return it, then she has $6,000 worth of income, or she’s received a $6,000 gift,” he says. “I’m sure that the company is deducting the cost of that dress — the cost of manufacturing, the design, the materials and all that other stuff. And then when she gives it away to the charity, then she gets a charitable contribution for it.”

While some articles in the press have reported that the clothes or jewelry were given to her free of charge or lent to her, none has criticized Obama or compared her practices with Nancy Reagan’s. Instead, the articles have swooned over her fashion sense.

“All Hail the Leader of the Fashionable World” was the headline on a Jan. 21 Washington Post story. In the 14th paragraph the story mentioned that the diamond earrings had been lent to Obama. The story quoted Katie McCormick Lelyveld, the first lady’s press secretary, as saying she paid for her inauguration clothes. But a subsequent Feb. 12 New York Times story quoted the designers themselves as saying they did not charge the Obamas.

Blog Guy, I saw a picture of the President and Michelle Obama out on the town on Valentine’s Day, and she was carrying a brown paper bag. What would the first lady be doing with a bag?

This is very sensitive, so don’t tell anybody else, but you know the so-called “Nuclear Football” the President always has with him in case he gets mad and wants to nuke some country?

Sure. Everybody has heard of that.

Well, they carry that around in a brown paper bag, and sometimes he lets Michelle hold it so his hands are free to wave and smoke and stuff.

Wow! I had no idea!

Exactly. That’s how it’s supposed to be. Sometimes the President lets his daughters carry it around, too, because it’s a pretty neat gizmo.

The girls? I have to say that makes me nervous.

Don’t worry. The girls have been warned not to press that shiny red button.

Where’s Obama’s Obama outfit?

Blog Guy, I’m very worried about security for Inauguration Day. With those huge crowds, how will they keep track of the Obamas?

All the Obamas are wearing super-sophisticated computer laser holographic microchip high-security credentials from now through Inauguration Day, as you can see in these photos.

Super-sophisticated? I could print out those signs on my Hewlett Packard!

Is that right? Then you can expect a Secret Service visit, Mr. Smarty-Pants!

Whatever. Is it just me, or do those folks not look much like the Obamas I remember?

Well, they’re not still wearing the fancy Hollywood make-up they wore during the campaign, of course. You think they’re gonna keep spending two hours every day getting made up?

So, we’ll never see that ultra-glamorous Obama couple again?
