Texas Boaters Make Us Proud!!!

These young men are so inspiring. I am so glad they were rescued!!! JC

Mon Aug 31, BLESSING, Texas – Three Texas fishermen who spent eight days stranded in the Gulf of Mexico atop their capsized boat endured hunger, blistering heat, scares from sharks and hallucinations, but they never gave up hope they'd be rescued.

"It was on a day-to-day basis that everybody had their breakdown," Tressel Hawkins told NBC's "Today Show" Monday. "The power of prayer had us feeling safe as far as knowing that we were going to make it out of it, but didn't know how long that we were going to have to endure this."

The men were reunited with their families early Sunday after they were found sitting on their 23-foot catamaran 180 miles from land. They were identified as Hawkins, 43, of Markham; James Phillips, 30, of Blessing; and Curtis Hall, 28, of Palacios.

"I knew we were coming home; I never had a doubt," Phillips, the boat owner, told the Houston Chronicle.

The crew of a sport fishing boat spotted the men waving their white T-shirts near Port Aransas and rescued them Saturday. The three were reported missing Aug. 22 after they left Matagorda, about 90 miles southwest of Houston, on a fishing trip and never returned. Port Aransas is about 130 miles from Matagorda.

The three were asleep that Friday night and were awakened by water coming in the boat, Hawkins said.

"Once we were awake and saw what happened, it flipped over in one minute," Phillips told the Chronicle. "Then us country boys went into survival mode. That's all we could do."'

The men rationed their salvaged bubble gum, crackers, beer and chips, and used a hose to suck fresh water out of the internal "washdown" tank. Fishermen often keep such a tank to wash fish slime off their boat when they are out in the salt water.

"We'd eat crackers one day, and then a handful of chips," Phillips said. "Everything tasted like gasoline and saltwater."

Hall and Haskins both said they saw U.S. Coast Guard helicopters and rescue planes fly over. The Coast Guard, which gave up the search after the men had been missing a week, never saw them.

Polar Bears Ignore Al Gore and They are Doing Just Fine

Polar Bears don't read or watch TV or movies, fortunately. Had they believed Al Gore, no telling what the dire consequences would have been. Too bad some Dims Dems hang on his every word. Al Gore, whose utility bill exceeds many people's annual income, knows nothing about what he is talking about. Sadly he made C's in college in Science. But what excuse do others have?

Hey, Dems, are you dumber than a polar bear?

Polar Bears Refute Al Gore's Warnings

The polar bears that climate change alarmists claim are endangered by global warming are doing just fine, thank you.

Al Gore and other alarmists have warned that higher global temperatures due to greenhouse gases could lead to the melting of the polar ice caps. That would threaten the polar bears' efforts to find food and survive.

But due to colder than usual subarctic weather this year, healthier polar bears are being spotted along the Hudson Bay coast in Canada, according to a release from PR Newswire.

"The late break-up of ice this year on Hudson Bay means the polar bears, which rely on sea ice to live, have been given more time during spring and summer to hunt and eat seals, and this has allowed them to gain important weight to live off of until freeze-up," said Robert Buchanan, president of Polar Bears International.

Daryll Hedman, a regional wildlife manager for Manitoba Conservation in Canada, said polar bears remain on the Hudson Bay ice for as long as possible so they can feed, and this year the ice was so thick that they stayed there for an extra two weeks, resulting in fatter, healthier bears this summer.

On a related front: With many Democrats still clamoring for cap-and-trade legislation to curb carbon emissions in response to global warming fears, the outgoing leader of the environmental group Greenpeace has retracted an assertion about Arctic ice.

In a July 15 release entitled "Urgent Action Needed as Arctic Ice Melts," Greenpeace said there will be an ice-free Arctic by the year 2030 due to global warming.

Under questioning by BBC reporter Stephen Sackur, Gerd Leipold, the retiring Greenpeace leader, stated, "I don't think it will be melting by 2030 . . . That may have been a mistake."

Can the Government really print money this fast?

Immigration and Health Care: Legislation on the Table WILL Extend Health Care to Illegal Aliens

Just about the time the Center for Immigration Studies was holding a press briefing at the National Press Club about the immigration and health reform connection, proponents from President Obama on down were denying that illegal aliens would receive taxpayer-funded health care under pending legislation.

I’m here to tell you, as I told the Press Club crowd, the legislation on the table does, honest to goodness, effectively extend coverage to illegal aliens.

Take the premium subsidy in the House bill, H.R. 3200. This lies in the part of the legislation (Division A, Title II) that creates a Health Choices Administration, adds the infamous “public option,” sets up and runs the “exchange” clearinghouse for getting insurance, and controls a graduated premium subsidy program through allocation of “individual affordability credits.”

The subsidy, found in Section 242, will give a voucher to people earning between 133 percent of the official poverty level and 400 percent of that income level (or, up to about $88,000 a year for a family of four).

This is a time for courage

Sunday, May 17, 2009

At the TEA PARTY, a black man, Dr. Donald May, delivered this message from the courthouse steps in Lubbock, Texas. He electrified the audience like I haven't seen in a long time. His delivery was masterful. I am sorry you could not see him in action. Anyway, I thought you might enjoy his words. The news media was there, but not one word of this mans appearance ever appeared on TV or in print, even though he completely dominated the scene.

Posted on Monday, May 04, 2009 9:44:42 AM by Lennyq

Ladies and gentlemen, This is a Time For Courage.

We are gathered here today on the Plains of West Texas in common purpose. We are here to remind our government that this is our country, We the People are still in charge, and our government is still our servant and not our master.

Our Nation’s founding document is The Declaration of Independence. It tells us that our rights come from God and not from a small group of Elite men and women.

Our Constitution starts with the words “We the People.” Our Constitution was written for ordinary Americans like you and me. Our Constitution protects us from our government and from the politicians.

Our President has complained that our Constitution gives ordinary people too much protection.

He has ridiculed us for the high value we place on our Bibles, our guns, our personal property, and our Liberty . He tells us we do not deserve to keep the money we have earned.

We are told freedom has not worked. Personal responsibility, free enterprise, and Liberty have not been effective. Our government will now make more of our decisions for us.

Other than our military, I can think of not one government agency I have ever found to be helpful.

And speaking of our military, how about those Navy Seals blowing the heads off those three terrorist pirates? Don’t you just wish our entire government would function with such efficiency, professionalism, and courage?

We watch in disbelief as our beloved United States is weakened economically, militarily, and morally by a Radical President and his eager accomplices.

What has taken generations to build is systematically destroyed and replaced with the same Socialist Evil that brought poverty, destruction, and despair to untold hundreds of millions.

The problems we face today have occurred because we have not defended our Nation from Socialism. For too long we have allowed the wrong people to make the worst possible decisions.

The Bible warns us of class hatred. The Radical leadership of our government daily fans the evil flames of class envy.

Our European and Canadian friends beg us to not make the same Socialist mistakes they did.

The President of the European Union warned our President that his Socialist economic plans are taking the World down the “road to Hell.”

Where have all the pearls gone? Long time passing...

A year ago we saw a lot of pearls. Maybe we didn't really see the woman wearing them.

When will we ever learn?

I guess candidate's wives try harder than incumbent's wives.

Walkin' the Dog.......

Wow!!! The contrast is striking. Nancy Reagan dressed to the nines to walk the dog and Michelle Obama ....... well, what can I say?

Am I being nit picky?

It's just that, frankly, the first lady has nothing to do except look nice and represent the USA in a positive way.

I remember reading that among the FLOTUS's staff, there's a person whose only job is to take care of the FLOTUS's clothes. Send them to the laundry or cleaners. And keep a record book of what was worn when and where.

I can't imagine that has been a very hard job lately.

Many a slip.......

What went wrong?

by Janet Crain
Well, I'd like to think the message was DOD. Too much hubris, too much over confidence, too much taking the great unwashed electorate for granted.

No one expected the turnout at Town Hall meetings. It was messy, inconvenient, some even called it un-American. But it was democracy in action and it reminded many of what this country was and is all about. You can take all the lobbyists and Union bosses, all the late night bull sessions by the old pols, take the lock step liberated liberals who march to exactly the same tune, and all the ink and all the electron bits and bites and megabits and throw them in the ocean. The people wouldn't miss them. The people can govern themselves.

From Salon

It's almost Labor Day. Healthcare reform is struggling, the public option is near dead. Why couldn't Obama deliver?

By Thomas Schaller

News

Reuters/Kevin Lamarque

President Obama at a healthcare forum Thursday in Washington.

Aug. 24, 2009 | Barring a major public groundswell or miraculous reversal in Congress, Barack Obama's healthcare reform package will not include the provision that matters most to the Democratic base, the so-called public option. Why has a president who entered the White House with the second-biggest winning margin of any Democratic president since the New Deal, and who is blessed with solid Capitol Hill majorities in both chambers of Congress, struggled to save this key agenda item?

Was the White House's public relations rollout insufficient to counter the stronger-than-anticipated resistance from healthcare opponents? Was the public option always just a bargaining chip to give away in exchange for what the president really wants? What happened to the vaunted Obama campaign apparatus, which was supposed to morph into a machine delivering support for Obama's agenda? Did Obama simply lack the political will or political capital? Or should he have been less of a consensus seeker and more of a Rove-ian steamroller?

Maybe there's some truth to all those scenarios. Call it the public option's "imperfect storm." Yet the policy stumble by a president who demonstrated so much political skill over the past two years merits further inquiry into what went wrong, and why. Here are four possible explanations:

Nyet to Soviet Medicine!!!

What Soviet Medicine Teaches Us

Mises Daily by | Posted on 8/21/2009 12:00:00 AM

In 1918, the Soviet Union became the first country to promise universal "cradle-to-grave" healthcare coverage, to be accomplished through the complete socialization of medicine. The "right to health" became a "constitutional right" of Soviet citizens.

The proclaimed advantages of this system were that it would "reduce costs" and eliminate the "waste" that stemmed from "unnecessary duplication and parallelism" — i.e., competition.

These goals were similar to the ones declared by Mr. Obama and Ms. Pelosi — attractive and humane goals of universal coverage and low costs. What's not to like?

The system had many decades to work, but widespread apathy and low quality of work paralyzed the healthcare system. In the depths of the socialist experiment, healthcare institutions in Russia were at least a hundred years behind the average US level. Moreover, the filth, odors, cats roaming the halls, drunken medical personnel, and absence of soap and cleaning supplies added to an overall impression of hopelessness and frustration that paralyzed the system. According to official Russian estimates, 78 percent of all AIDS victims in Russia contracted the virus through dirty needles or HIV-tainted blood in the state-run hospitals.

The Queen of Faux Pas

The United States does not have royalty. So we substitute our highest elected officials and their family.

I know I consider the First Lady the Queen of Faux Pas.

Comments:

How many of you are proud to say that THIS is the First Lady
of the United States? She certainly isn't what I'd call a classy
First Lady! Can you imagine Jackie Kennedy, Nancy Reagan,
etc. getting off of Air Force One or out of a presidential limo
looking like this? DH

Obamacare explained

In contrast to the old methods requiring costly instructors, universities, medical schools, and textbooks, Obamacare will reply heavily upon the Internet for instructions on how to proceed.

This will save enough money to pay for insurance for everyone and the refunding of Medicare and Social Security. And provide yearly stimulus checks for everyone under 50. Oldsters will receive End of Life counseling in lieu of a check.

Slippery Slope to Single Payer

America simply must not be allowed to slip into single payer insurance.

When you're the only game in town, make that the country, you don't have to be any good. You can be lazy, inefficient, rude, incompetent and just plain sorry. Kinda reminds me of the medical care we got from the USAF. It finally got so bad, the military had to give dependents options like CHAMPUS and let them go off base to a community where there was competition. Socialized medicine just doesn't work. Even on a small scale. National would be a nightmare.

Going Bare

by Janet Crain
Sorry, when you've lived as long as I have, you just don't get all teary eyed hearing about uninsured Americans. Some are that way through no fault of their own and that is a concern. Especially those with pre-existing or newly found conditions. They have my sincere sympathy.

But the majority are healthy and they choose to do without. It's called "going bare". I equate these people with those who don't buy an unbrella until it's raining cats and dogs. I once knew a family that turned down the husband's employer's insurance because it incurred a $3.00 a week bookkeeping fee. When their son (yes, they had 6 kids) was injured in a motorcycle wreck, they appealed to the Catholic Church, who paid the bill.

It's the same way with home insurance. Some who own their homes don't think they need insurance until a hurricane, fire, flood or tornado wipes them out.

Then there is wailing and gnashing of teeth. And demands that FEMA build them a new better house.

My advice to the healthy unemployed is get some kind of job. Most school districts offer excellent insurance. Try to get on as bus driver. That will free up your days to job hunt. But don't turn down a job as custodian, teachers aide, maintenance or cafeteria worker.

Counties, cities, etc. also offer group insurance at affordable rates. And while you are looking, buy some catastrophic insurance. It's better to owe $5,000 for an unforeseen emergency that several hundred thousand.

(CNSNews.com) - President Obama for a third time has misstated the number of Americans who lack health insurance, this time doing it in an op-ed piece published Saturday by the New York Times.

“I don’t have to explain to the nearly 46 million Americans who don’t have health insurance how important this is,” Obama said in the op-ed about his efforts to reform the American health care industry.

In a July 22 primetime press conference, Obama falsely said there were “47 million Americans who have no health insurance.” At an August 11 town hall meeting in Portsmouth, N.H., he falsely said “nearly 46 million Americans don't have health insurance coverage today” and that “46 million of our fellow citizens have no coverage.”
