Underwear Bomber not the only one with troublesome briefs

Exclusive: Obama Got Pre-Christmas Intelligence Briefing About Terror Threats to 'Homeland'

Mark Hosenball

President Obama received a high-level briefing only three days before Christmas about possible holiday-period terrorist threats against the U.S., NEWSWEEK has learned. The briefing was centered on a written report, produced by U.S. intelligence agencies, titled "Key Homeland Threats," a senior U.S. official says.

The administration official, who asked for anonymity when discussing sensitive information, says that nowhere in this document was there any mention of Yemen, whose
affiliate of Al Qaeda is now believed to have been behind the Christmas Day attempt by Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab to bring down a transatlantic airliner with a bomb hidden in his underpants. However, the official declined to disclose any other information about the substance of the briefing, including what kind of specific warnings, if any, the president was given about possible holiday attacks and whether Yemen came up during oral discussions.

According to the official, the holiday threat briefing—one in a series of regularly scheduled sessions with top counterterrorism officials
—was held in the White House Situation Room on Dec. 22. Present were representatives of agencies involved in counterterrorism policy and operations, including Attorney General Eric Holder, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, and FBI Director Robert Mueller. The CIA and the national intelligence director's office were represented by deputy agency heads: CIA deputy director Steven Kappes and David Gompert, the principal deputy to national intelligence czar Dennis Blair. Also present was Michael Leiter, director of the National Counterterrorism Center, a unit of the intelligence czar's office that was created after 9/11 to ensure that intelligence reporting about possible terrorist plots was shared quickly among all U.S. agencies that might have some capability to do something about it.

Homeland Security is Going Off Half Cocked.....

Our Government's reaction to a patriotic assembly to protest taxation without representation:

http://api.ning.com/files/UNNlkOVukw8cXztJc4bDEq2ztrm9owekwvHofmLwYgxLlpwX8*h1av8amHehbYkmt3Qvxny16Gh1ob8gFYeRrw2HVq-joU7Y/hsarightwingextremism0904071.pdf

I know, we're just the chattering classes, but somebody has gone all paranoid here:

(U//FOUO) Proposed imposition of firearms restrictions and weapons bans

likely would attract new members into the ranks of rightwing extremist groups,

as well as potentially spur some of them to begin planning and training for

violence against the government. The high volume of purchases and

stockpiling of weapons and ammunition by rightwing extremists in anticipation

of restrictions and bans in some parts of the country continue to be a primary

concern to law enforcement.

— (U//FOUO) Returning veterans possess combat skills and experience that are

attractive to rightwing extremists. DHS/I&A is concerned that rightwing

extremists will attempt to recruit and radicalize returning veterans in order to

boost their violent capabilities.

Greg has left a new comment on the post "Homeland Security is Going Off Half Cocked.....":

This DHS report is similar to the FBI's Project Megiddo report issued in 1999, which claimed that "rightwing extremists" were planning a war in 2000. The FBI was spending its time tramping around in Idaho and Montana at the very time muslim terrorists were infiltrating the country in preperation for Sept 11th.

Project Megiddo turned out to be cobbled together reports from the Southern Poverty Law Center, and Anti-Defamation League, 2 extreme leftwing money machines who raise millions by scaring people into believing in rightwing extremists.

It would not be surprising if the SPLC and ADL were behind this DHS report as well.

Cheney Calls Obama Administration Policies Naive and Dangerous

Cheney Warns of New Attacks

Former Vice President Dick Cheney is blasting the fledgling administration of Barack Obama, arguing that its policies dealing with terrorism and international foes are naïve and dangerous, making it all the more likely that terrorists will succeed in their next attempt at killing Americans, according to a report in Politico.

Simply by closing Guantanamo Bay’s detention camp for terrorists, Cheney said, Obama inadvertently will aid enemies eager to make another attack on the United States. Another major attack on this country — perhaps even using biological or nuclear materials — is very likely in the next few years, Cheney said.

“I think there’s a high probability of such an attempt,” Cheney said. “Whether or not they can pull it off depends whether or not we keep in place policies that have allowed us to defeat all further attempts, since 9/11, to launch mass-casualty attacks against the United States.”

Cheney opined that the inevitable attack will be “a 9/11-type event where the terrorists are armed with something much more dangerous than an airline ticket and a box cutter — a nuclear weapon or a biological agent of some kind” that is set off in an American city.

In a wide-ranging interview with Politico, Cheney emphasized the usefulness of the interrogations at Gitmo while lambasting the policies emerging from the new administration.

“When we get people who are more concerned about reading the rights to an al-Qaida terrorist than they are with protecting the United States against people who are absolutely committed to do anything they can to kill Americans, then I worry,” Cheney said.

Napolitano, Arizonan Governor will head Homeland Security

Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano has been chosen to be secretary of the vast and troubled Department of Homeland Security.

Napolitano out of the Senate picture

It looks like we can forget about that dream Arizona Senate matchup between John McCain and popular Arizona governor Janet Napolitano (D) in 2010.

President-elect Barack Obama is prepared to tap Napolitano to serve as his secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. If Napolitano leaves the governorship, Arizona’s Republican Secretary of State, Jan Brewer, would become governor.

Napolitano is unable to run for a third-term in Arizona because of the state’s term limits law.

Democratic operatives have been eagerly eyeing McCain’s seat as a potential pickup in 2010 – and saw Napolitano as their strongest challenger. Arizona gave its home state senator just a five-point margin of victory in the presidential election, and the fast-growing state has been trending in a Democratic direction lately. One public poll even showed Napolitano leading McCain in a hypothetical 2010 matchup.

But the speculation involving Napolitano was a bit premature. One leading Arizona Democratic operative said that Napolitano was never likely to challenge McCain, and only would have run if he stepped down from the Senate.

By Anthony Caroto, published Feb 28, 2007
llegal immigration is a hot-button issue, finally. Nowhere else is this more a problem than in Arizona, and Governor Janet Napolitano is fed up. She's pretty much on her knees now and begging Congress to stop pussyfooting around and start implementing realistic goals.

We've heard too much talk about border security and not enough action. All of America is waiting - and time is running out." Gov. Napolitano said in a speech at the National Press Club.

"Foreigners who have degrees in special fields should be automatically entitled to come work in the United States regardless of existing federal visa restrictions." Added Napolitano

Her solution is a combination of border enforcement, a temporary worker program to deal with the demand for workers to fill jobs in the U.S. and strong cooperation with Mexico and other trade partners.

...Napolitano’s heart lies with the shamnesty crowd. She vetoed a bill cracking down on phony matricula consular cards for illegal aliens and rejected efforts allowing more cooperation between local law enforcement and the feds. She opposes assimilationist measures on English language and ID requirements to prevent voter fraud; she supports in-state tuition discounts for illegal aliens.

In short, she’s a double-talker and double-doer who will ensure the immigration chaos status quo.
